Bestival was also a chance to try out some of the Cinehack projects: we showed Orientation, the budget helicam and also two camera projects. The first was a MIDI based mini-motion control head. Servos controlled by an arduino via Max/MSP/Jitter could be manipulated using a korg MIDI controller. Hitting record stored the camera movements as a midi sequence which can be played back instantly, or even manipulated in music software.
The second project is part of the cinejack architecture: using the same servo-based moving camera head in conjunction with a face tracking software library to follow faces and place them at specific locations in the frame. Two of these systems can be used with cinejack’s other modules to cover live dialog without a camera operator.
