Finally finished the Family Ferns Video, a project which got a little out of hand.
Originally we talked about some kind of super-camp pastiche of the film  FireFox, with Rachel stealing a soviet jet fighter and me attempting to  shoot her down but rendering the outdoor scenes in CGI was way too  heavy.Eventually we settled on a Tron-meets-Ulysses-31 sort of NPR rendering style with a real Rachel green-screened in. We repurposed the jet as a kind of G-Force style space plane and cannibalised a lot of old models to build the rest of the world. In a classic planning blind-spot I didn’t initially do the maths on how long a 6min (9000 frames at 25fps) 720p. Just as well otherwise we wouldn’t have tried it and the final result’s quite nice.We shot the green-screen sequence at Culture Lab using a Sony HVR-Z7E. Rachel did her own makeup. We did the matting in AfterEffects, using a bit of smart-blur to make her a bit cartoony. Lots of camera-shake was added to gel the image together.
